 ಚಾಮುಂಡಿ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಶಕ್ತಿ, ಅನುಗ್ರಹ ಮತ್ತು ರಕ್ಷಣೆಯ ಸಂಕೇತವಾಗಿದೆ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಚಾಮುಂಡೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವತೆಯು ದೇವಿ ದುರ್ಗೆಯ ಉಗ್ರ ರೂಪವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನಂಬಲಾಗಿದೆ, ಅವರು ರಾಕ್ಷಸ ಮಹಿಷಾಸುರನನ್ನು ಸೋಲಿಸಿದರು. ದೇವರನ್ನು ಮೈಸೂರಿನ ರಕ್ಷಕ ಎಂದು ಪೂಜಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ ದೇವಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರುವ ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಭಕ್ತರು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
